Transport – Receiving Dogs

There are two roles or functions when receiving dogs:
  • One is to meet the dogs at the airport, facilitate the transfer, collect the crates, answer questions, and provide any information to the adopters that is coming with the dog. Learn more under Facilitate Transfer below for more information.
  • The second involves transporting the dog after it arrives to another location. Examples would be driving the dog from Seattle to the US side of the Canadian border, from its arrival to an overnight pet sitter, or to another airport. Facilitate Transfer
Key Responsibilities:
  • Receive and assist with airport connections or final destinations
  • Meet and greet adopters
  • Meet pet escorts
  • Receive documentation from pet escorts and provide to adopters with instructions
  • Assist adopters removing their dogs from kennels
  • For particularly timid or frightened dogs, identify quiet areas to allow the dogs to exit
  • Assist with walking, watering, and either check-in or loading dogs into autos
  • Receive kennels, disassemble and assist with loading them for storage
  • Conduct oneself professionally and politely at all times as a representative of Amigos de 4 Patas / Hope 4 La Pawz
  • Communicate with Transport Team Leader and other volunteers as necessary concerning progress of the transport
Training:

Qualifications:
  • Willingness to support the Amigso de 4 Patas mission
  • Cell phone, charged, with Whatsapp for communication
  • Punctuality
  • Understand the documentation required for transporting dogs
  • Ability to handle dogs on leash at the busy area
  • Ability to assemble to disassemble airport approved kennels
  • Successful completion of Transportation Assistance Training Course
Time Commitment:
  • Time to drive to airport and back: varies
  • Time at airport: 2-3 hours
  • Preparation time (includes obtaining documents and supplies): 30 minutes
Ground Transportation
Key Responsibilities:
  • Transport dogs safely from the airport to the next destination
  • Drive in a safe and responsible manner as a representative of Baja Dogs La Paz
  • Walk and water dogs as necessary (upon receipt, at a stop during the drive, after arrival)
  • Administer medication, if necessary, and as directed by Baja Dogs La Paz veterinarian
  • Meet pet escorts or other volunteers escorting the dogs
  • Facilitate transfer or required documentation such as certificates, health records, and/or permits
  • Relay instructions and answer questions concerning documentation, status of the dog, or next steps as defined in the transport logistics plan
  • Conduct oneself professionally and politely at all times as a representative of Baja Dogs La Paz
  • Communicate with Baja Dogs Transport Team Leader and other volunteers as necessary concerning progress of the transport
Training:

Qualifications:

  • Legal driver’s license, insurance, and legally registered auto for transport
  • Cell phone, charged, with Whatsapp for communication
  • Punctuality
  • Ability to navigate the required route
  • Understand the documentation required for transporting dogs
  • Ability to handle dogs on leash at the busy area
  • Ability to assemble to disassemble airport approved kennels
  • Successful completion of Baja Dogs La Paz Transportation Assistance Training Course
Time Commitment:
  • Actual transport time varies
  • Preparation time (includes obtaining documents and supplies): 30 minutes to 1 hour
  • Rendezvous time (meeting pet escorts, collecting the dogs, and loading them into various vehicles): 45 minutes
