Some dogs require an extensive collection of expensive toys.

Jay has a coconut.

He’s fine.

Give this young guy a stick, a coconut, another dog and somewhere interesting to explore, and Jay considers the day’s entertainment fully organized.

Jay is playful, friendly and endlessly curious. He loves walks, rides beautifully in the car, enjoys dogs of every size and age, and is always eager to be included in whatever his humans are doing. He’s also comfortable around cats, making him a remarkably flexible candidate for a guy whose primary qualifications include expertise in coconut-related recreation.

Jay is still very young—almost a puppy—so he needs a family that actually wants to do things with their dog. Walks, adventures, games and canine friends are all high on his list. A sedentary lifestyle is not.

He’s smart and eager to learn, and he’s already mastered “sit,” “come” and walking nicely with his person. With continued training, Jay seems quite prepared to add additional qualifications to his résumé.

His story didn’t begin nearly as happily. Jay was found lying in the street, very thin and suffering from several bite wounds on his leg and body.

And yet, he was friendly.

Whatever happened before that day apparently didn’t convince Jay that the world—or the people and animals in it—weren’t worth knowing.

Today, he’s much more interested in what’s next.

Jay would thrive with an active person, couple or family. Kids or teenagers who want a four-legged adventure partner would be a bonus, and another dog would give him someone to help with the important daily work of running, wrestling and investigating the yard.

More than anything, Jay wants to be part of the pack.

Fortunately, his employment requirements are quite reasonable.

Love him. Include him. Take him places.

And perhaps keep a coconut handy.
