Rescue Guidelines

Rescuing Dogs: What You Need to Know

Quick Answer: We don’t have a shelter and can’t take in dogs directly. However, we support individuals (rescatistas) who rescue and foster dogs until we find a permanent home. If you rescue a dog, you are responsible for its care, but we’re here to help you with resources and guidance.

Key Steps for Rescuers:

  1. Safety First: Ensure you, your family, and other pets are safe when rescuing.
  2. Be Prepared: Have food, water, and a leash ready. Ask around if the dog has an owner.
  3. Veterinary Care: Take the dog to a vet immediately. We can assist with food, vaccines, deworming, and sterilization once the dog is in our system.
  4. Commitment Required: Do not rescue a dog unless you have a plan for its care and a safe place to take it.

Before You Rescue:

  1. Read our Ten Best Practices for Rescuing to understand the responsibilities involved.
  2. Make sure you can comply with our guidelines before filling out an intake form.

Important Reminder: If you’re not ready to take full responsibility for the dog, it’s best to help it in its current environment until a better solution is found. Removing a dog without a clear plan can sometimes do more harm than good.

Ready to Rescue? If you’re committed to fostering a dog and helping it become adoptable, the rewards are immense. Watching a rescue dog transform and find a loving home is an unforgettable experience. For more detailed information about our process and support, read about our 4 Patas System.

To Start the Process: Use the intake form below to enter a dog into our program. Choose the language of your preference.
